WHERE HORSE POWER CHANGES LIVES
We provide a variety of programs and services to children and adults from age 4 through senior citizens all utilizing the unique qualities of horses. Each program/service meets different needs. Determining which program and service best meets the needs and the desires of the applicant depend on the results of an assessment.
Support one of our equine heroes in its critically important role to improve the lives of children and adults with special needs. Your gift underwrites the feed, hay, supplements, some tack, farrier fees and veterinarian “wellness” plan for one of our equine ambassadors.
By volunteering your time at Dream Catchers, you are helping us help others. Volunteers are essential to our ability to provide services to people with special needs. You get to share in the miracles that we see every day. Our greatest need for volunteers is assisting participants who are learning to ride and learning how to care for horses.
Dream Catchers has been an amazing experience for both my daughter Grace and myself. Grace has Sensory Processing Disorder and Motor Apraxia. DC noticed the need for Grace to be around her peers, so they placed her in a youth horsemanship class. Because DC recognizes her disorder, they are able to provide that special instruction to her in a typical class setting. She is learning ALL areas of horsemanship, and her bond with her horse, Lark, is incredible. I also chose to volunteer at DC to give back to others who need horses! The training clinics are thorough, interactive, and exciting! DC instructors are so knowledgeable and professional. Every volunteer session is heartwarming, and I can't wait to become even more involved!
Reconnect with the Equine Lifestyle
I am an older adult who has loved horses all my life, but one who has been absent from actual riding and horse care for almost 18 years. The Adult horsemanship class has enabled me to reconnect with the equine lifestyle, that I came to realize, I missed so much. Time spent with the horses is my “Oasis of Calm”. Whether it be riding, ground work, volunteering at the barn, or just spending quiet time with the horses, grooming and interacting with them, I have improved my mental and physical health in numerous ways. I look forward to my time spent at Dream Catchers and try to maximize it as much as I can.
The Magic of Volunteering
Volunteering at Dream Catchers is the most important job I’ll ever have. I’ve heard a 7yr old speak his first word, I’ve helped a discouraged adult accomplish something special, and I’ve received numerous smiles of joy. I’m humbled to help make moments of magic possible.
Physical & Mental Well Being
Dream Catchers has not only improved my physical well-being, but also my mental well-being. Many tasks that a person must do within a day requires them to engage their core, which means that many daily activities have become easier. This has given me more independence and confidence!
For the past 10 years, Aaron has gone through so much due to his disabilities. Through it all, Dream Catchers has been there for him. We are so thankful for the staff and supporters who always have his back.
While horseback riding has certainly improved our daughter’s physical strength and self-confidence, more importantly, it has provided a caring place for her to belong and just have fun.
